The platinum Omega Constellation Globemaster Annual Calendar is a specific genuine reference, not a generic description that can be applied to every lookalike. This page is a specification-led comparison rather than a hands-on test of a particular replica sample.
The genuine platinum reference
Omega reference 130.93.41.22.99.002 uses a 41 mm case and dial made from 950 platinum. Omega produced 52 examples. The watch combines a polished fluted bezel, a grey “pie-pan” dial, green enamel details and a green leather strap. Its annual calendar indicates the month with a central hand and needs calendar correction once a year, at the transition to March.
According to the official Omega reference page, the genuine watch uses calibre 8923, has a stated 55-hour power reserve and is rated to 10 bar. Those are manufacturer specifications for that genuine reference. They are not specifications for a replica with a similar dial.
What the annual-calendar display should do
The twelve month names sit around the dial and a dedicated hand points to the current month. A functioning annual calendar must distinguish 30-day and 31-day months; a simple decorative month hand or a basic date movement is not equivalent. When a listing claims an annual calendar, ask how the month is advanced, what happens at the end of April and how the display is corrected.
Platinum is a material claim, not a colour
A silver-grey finish does not establish that a case is platinum. The genuine reference’s material contributes substantially to its weight and cost. Replica interpretations are more commonly described with steel, plated metal or an unspecified alloy. Unless there is reliable material evidence, a lookalike should not be called a platinum watch.
The same rule applies to the dial. A platinum-coloured or sand-blasted surface may imitate the visual effect without using 950 platinum. Product photography alone cannot settle the question.
Useful comparison points
- Dial geometry: check the twelve facets of the pie-pan dial, the spacing of the month names and the reach of the month hand.
- Calendar function: confirm that the month indication is functional rather than fixed or decorative.
- Case and bezel: compare the 41 mm proportions, fluting, crown shape and the transition between polished and brushed surfaces.
- Movement: a display caseback or decorative rotor does not prove the presence of calibre 8923.
- Water resistance: treat a seller’s depth claim as unverified until the individual watch passes an appropriate pressure test.
- Weight and material: request a clear case-material description instead of inferring platinum from colour.
How to read replica listings more accurately
Separate the genuine reference used as a design benchmark from the product actually offered. A responsible listing should state the replica’s own case material, movement, dimensions and tested functions. Phrases such as “same as original” or “platinum quality” are not substitutes for those details.
Our Omega article collection uses the same approach across other models: establish the exact original reference first, then compare only the characteristics that can be observed or verified on the replica itself.
